Personal Care Services Assist with Activities of Daily Living

Eligibility Qualifications:
- Have Medicaid approval
- Have a diagnosis of an ongoing disability
- Need of assistance with (ADLs) Activities of Daily Living
- Desire to receive services while remaining in the comfort of your home

Manage Care Organizations – Star+Plus & Star Kids
Star+Plus is a Texas Medicaid manage care program for adults who have disabilities or age 65. Adults that have unskilled medical needs can receive care in the comfort of their own home instead of a facility. Star+Plus has health plans with Medicaid long term services and can continue to get regular Medicare care through your Medicare doctor. Star+Plus services assist with basic daily activities and short-term care with Respite.
Long-term services and support through services can include
- Personal Assistance Services Task
- Habilitation services (learning to do activities of daily living)
- Community First Choice (hands-on assistance with activities of daily living)
- Respite Care (short-term care to provide a break for caregivers)
STAR Kids is a Texas Medicaid managed care program that provides Medicaid benefits to children and adults 20 and younger who have disabilities. Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) assist with daily healthcare and living needs that have long-lasting illness or disability. As a provider for Star Kids an attendant will provide non skilled services demonstrating to the individual that activities of daily living are essential to be independent. With a more complex diagnosis the attendant will provide hands-on assistance and supervision based on physical and social environment.
Personal Care Services with activity of daily living included helping with:
- Eating
- Dressing
- Bathing
- Toileting
- Exercise
- Meal Preparation
- Light Housework
- Shopping for groceries
Personal Care Services with Instrumental activities of daily living include:
- Household chores necessary to maintain the home in a clean, sanitary and safe environment
- Escort services, which consist of accompanying, but not transporting, and helping a member access services or activities in the community
- Getting on and/or off a school bus
- Retrieving things or putting things away which are needed for ADLs
- Getting objects out of cupboards, drawers, closets, etc.
- Using a telephone or computer
- Laundry tasks
- Meal preparation
- Shopping
- Purchasing food or needed items
- Following emergency procedures
- Emergency preparedness such as knowing how to call 911 or what to do in the case of an emergency
- Leisure activities (hobbies, playing games, etc.)
- Many other components of daily tasks
